Good questions make good starting points.
When should I start planning for retirement?
Start when you begin asking questions about timing, income, or what you want life after work to look like. Earlier conversations leave more room to compare choices, but it is useful to get organized at any stage.
What should I bring to a first conversation?
Bring the questions you have. If useful, you can also have a general picture of income, savings, retirement accounts, debts, and expected retirement timing. Please do not email account numbers or other sensitive information.
How do I know how much retirement income I may need?
Begin with the life you expect to live: regular expenses, housing, health costs, and the things you hope to do. A plan can help explore income sources and assumptions, but projections are estimates, not guarantees.
Can I talk with someone if I am already retired?
Yes. A conversation can help you revisit spending, income, investments, or a life change. Recommendations depend on your circumstances and the services being discussed.
What if I am going through a major life transition?
A transition can change priorities quickly. We can start by listening, sorting out the financial questions in front of you, and identifying what may need attention now versus later.
Does an initial inquiry confirm an appointment?
No. A request is not a confirmed booking. Share your preferred contact method and a date or time range, and Keith will follow up to confirm availability.
What is sequence of returns risk?
It is the risk that poor market returns arrive early in retirement, while you are withdrawing money. The same average return can produce very different ending balances depending on order. The sequence of returns estimator on this site shows the contrast with your own numbers.
Can I use the calculators to decide what to do?
They are educational estimators with stated assumptions. They do not know your taxes, fees, health, or other facts, and they are not advice or a guarantee. Use them to form better questions.
Sources and next steps
Sources and verification
- Social Security: survivor benefit amounts
Survivor and retirement benefits are not simply added together. Eligibility and claiming decisions depend on your circumstances.
- Medicare: long-term care coverage
Medicare does not pay for most non-medical long-term care. Plan separately for help with everyday activities.
- SEC Investor.gov: annuities
Annuities are long-term insurance contracts. Costs, restrictions, and benefits vary; insurer obligations depend on financial strength and claims-paying ability.
